TECH TIP: Don't Drive with your Tire Warning Light On!

Sometimes it can be easy to forget about a tire warning light on your dash--- but beware! By not addressing the concern presented could result in loss of tire tread life and stopping ability, loss of fuel efficiency or your tire can overheat and fail!

The Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems have been mandated by the Federal Government and the thresholds necessary to illuminate the tire warning lamp are consistent with the Federal Guidelines.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System utilizes a warning lamp, located in the instrument cluster, to alert the driver of low pressure conditions.  The warning light is illuminated when the tire pressure decreases by 25%.  Temperature fluctuations can cause changes in tire pressure.  For every 10 degrees of change in temperature, the tire pressure can change by 1 psi.  Therefore, the tire warning indicator may be triggered due to a large change in temperature combined with a preexisting low pressure condition.

We recommend checking the tire inflation pressures every two weeks and before taking long trips.
